Turning our mid-life potential into reality. A reminder from Australian marketing guru, Sonya Keenan.

Sonya Keenan Quote Coaching Post

Knowledge is the new currency” mentioned Sonya in her virtual presentation. “When something isn’t working, then you need to have the right knowledge to lift yourself to the next level. You need to set yourself up for success by defining success for you and then get coaching support to see it through.”  [Sonya Keenan, Australia]

It was a busy end to 2020. Not only was I shifting house, but also attending Australia’s premiere digital marketing conference, run by global marketing guru, Sonya Keenan. As a coach to some of the biggest and best marketing agencies in Australia, I was inspired by the messages she shared.  Sonya is the owner of Omnichannel Media Group. I love the reference to the acronym, OMG. Sonya’s passion is to coach people to develop the business that they want to own, and educate and empower them to do this in the best and most exciting way possible. With over two decades of marketing experience behind her, Sonya is passionate about business success and the need for coaching.

“I love helping people turn their potential into reality” she said. Then she went on to explain that the biggest thing she sees in any business is what she terms, ‘Implementation Paralysis’ – in other words, you can’t get stuff done, because you feel paralysed with everything that you have to do. Sounds like many of us doesn’t it? But Sonya’s expertise lies in helping business owners overcome this implementation paralysis from a business perspective.

That’s when I thought of all of you mid-life lovelies in this community. Many of us face this ‘implementation paralysis’ too don’t we? You know what I mean … as women entering mid-life, we have so much going on in our lives still. And whether it’s to do with our careers or personal lives, if we want to change an aspect of our lives, then we start with all the will and motivation but because we are so busy,  ‘life’ itself gets in the way. We end up with ‘implementation paralysis’.

Then for many women in mid-life, there’s another issue too – our confusion about what to do to change aspects of our lives and then ‘how’ to put this into action. I know from my women’s ageing studies, that women in mid-life have been forgotten when it comes to the research on lifestyle-changes to implement which are specific to our 50s and 60s. Despite my own knowledge and experience, I was pretty confused too. It’s a time of life that I also found that nobody talks about much especially in the context of our symptoms and the impact on how we are feeling.

It’s why I loved listening to Sonya at her conference. She reminded me to remind you, that we all have the ability to realise our potential in life. No matter our age and stage. But what we need is the right knowledge  to lift ourselves to the next level. Which brings me to the amazing Sally Bartlett from California.

When Sally’s books arrived in my post-box this week, I was so excited for her. There was the hard-copy proof of her realising her own mid-life potential!

Her books winged their way to me across the Pacific Ocean from California to New Zealand. Personal Trainer and Pilates Coach, Sally Bartlett from California, had finally stopped listening to the ‘nay-sayers’ and realised her own mid-life potential after doing the MyMT™ Circuit Breaker programme with me in 2019. She wrote not one, but two books called ‘Dammit it’s Menopause – Meditations for Women to Achieve Clarity and Confidence Beyond their Wildest Dreams.’ At last, there was Sally, fulfilling her own mid-life potential and sending proof of the outcome to me.

I’m so pleased that she took the plunge to do my programme allowing her to feel better in order to not only do the job she loves to do, which is to inspire and educate mid-life women up there in California, but to also become a published author! Congratulations Sally!

However, I know how difficult it is to realise our potential when we aren’t feeling our best. And for millions of women around the world, not sleeping, having endless hot flushes, sore joints and feeling down and out, and for many, putting on weight [as happened to me as well], means that our menopause transition can be a challenging time in our lives. It’s exhausting and frustrating, so many of us turn to supplements to help us – some do, some don’t; some have a short-term effect, some have an effect for longer. But what these supplements don’t tend to do for you, is to help you understand that your body is ageing and changing – that’s what menopause is heralding in – the next phase of our life and for women, this means that we have up to 40% of our lives still to live. Yes, we tend to live on average, 7 years longer than our male counterparts. So, how are you getting on with your ageing?  Has anyone mentioned menopause and how this is the transition to changes to do with your biological ageing?

It’s why, as a women’s health and ageing educator, I totally agreed with Sonya’s message, – ‘Knowledge is powerful and when something isn’t working, then you need to have the knowledge to lift yourself to the next level. Only then will  you realise your true potential.”

This is why I love it when women come on the MyMT 12 week programmes. They discover why their symptoms are occurring and discover what to do using the lifestyle change strategies that I’ve researched for us at this stage of life. This knowledge then allows them to put the powerful strategies into action every step of the way.

It can be hard putting new routines into place, but as Sonya mentioned, we can change our behaviour when the OUTCOME is more attractive that the ALTERNATIVE, i.e. in menopause, the promise of a good night’s sleep and no more sore joints, or losing weight or having more energy, or feeling excited about living again – all these problems, drove me to keep solving the menopause-symptom jigsaw and to design the two different symptom reduction programmes for you too.

That’s why I loved Sonya’s session. She reminded me that with the right coaching and support, we can keep moving in the direction towards whatever success that we desire – professional and personal.

She then went on to explain how to do this:

You need to prioritise and use knowledge to do the smart things, not just the ‘to-do’ things that sit on your list each day. You need to set yourself up for success by defining success for you and then get the right support to see it through.”

It was such a great reminder to me about the power of knowledge, action, and of course, getting the right support to see our actions through. This is why I wanted to share this post with you all. Women’s health and behaviour-change research consistently states that women need support to change their behaviours – there’s too many things that occur in our lives, that get us off-track. When I undertook my Masters studies, it was situated in behaviour-change theory for lifestyle change. As such in the MyMT programmes, I remind women about my 3-D’s for Behaviour Change – Desire, Determination and Dedication. That’s why I focus on the coaching aspect of the business – changing our beliefs about how to look after ourselves as we age, and more importantly, following through on our actions. This is so important for those of us with busy lives.

Sonya Keenan’s presentation was a reminder for me to remind you, that if you are frustrated and confused about your symptoms in menopause, then will you let me help you?

How I help you when you  join me on MyMT™:

I’m a great believer in making my programmes actionable and easy to achieve. • Sleep all night without night sweats.
  • Reduce your hot flushes.
  • Restore your energy levels to what they used to be.
  • Restore your liver and gut health so your body absorbs the nutrients you need for improved health.
  • Reduce stress and improve metabolic and thyroid health.
  • Feel calm and in control again.
  • Reduce your menopause weight if you need to with the Transform Me programme.
