If you have arrived in midlife (early 40s – late 60s) you are now in a completely different hormonal environment, as your body prepares for its biological ageing. You may know that the decline in oestrogen and progesterone during midlife contributes to symptoms. But, have you ever been told why? And have you ever been informed that there are natural, lifestyle solutions that are scientifically evidenced to relieve your symptoms?
No? Neither had I.
Hi, I’m Dr Wendy Sweet (PhD), a Women’s Healthy Ageing Researcher and Educator from New Zealand.
Despite decades of knowledge from formerly working as a nurse, working in the health and fitness industry and lecturing at a University level on physiology, nutrition and exercise science, my menopause transition hit me hard! Like many women I was spending a huge amount of money on various supplements, hormone medications and Doctor’s visits, however, these did nothing for my weight, cholesterol, aching muscles and my confidence that I would ‘age-well’.
At this time, I was also undertaking my doctoral studies in women’s health and ageing. My study participants I interviewed told me similar stories, but not one of them mentioned menopause.
With oestrogen receptors located throughout the body – in the joints, muscles, liver and skin, as well as in the blood vessels, brain and fat cells – we often experience health changes that we don’t associate with menopause. That’s why I often tell women that ‘menopause isn’t just about hot flushes’.
My studies led me towards understanding that our symptoms don’t have to define us. I learnt that there are numerous women globally living in countries that don’t experience the symptoms or weight gain that many western women do.
Wouldn’t you love to know about this?! If so, then my online Masterclass on Menopause is for you.
