Most women joining me on the MyMT™ programmes are just like I was – spending huge amounts of money on supplements, hormone creams, weight loss diets, doctor’s visits, blood tests, Personal Trainers, HRT, health specialists and whatever else we can think of, to try and alleviate how we are feeling.
All this because menopause symptoms are distracting us from our day-to-day lives. We just keep trying to grab what remedies we can. Some work for a while, some don’t. I was driven to despair.
Waking night after night, endless hot flushes, aching muscles, mood swings and unstoppable belly fat, not only left me feeling exhausted, but left me concerned about my future health.
One day, after purchasing yet another supplement from a young saleswoman, who had no idea what I was going through, and knowing that my blood pressure and cholesterol were climbing, despite being on HRT, I had had enough!
It was my ‘lightbulb’ moment. I realised that nobody was taking a ‘whole-body’ approach to menopause symptoms. Furthermore, with menopause management framed within the medical and pharmaceutical paradigms, I also realised that I hadn’t heard anyone talking about lifestyle science solutions.
That’s when I knew I had to use my physiology and healthy ageing knowledge and experience, not only as a former nurse, but also as a leading exercise specialist in New Zealand and University Lecturer, to figure out how to turn around menopause symptoms and my health, so I could ‘age-well’.
That’s how MyMT™ began nearly a decade ago. I designed it for me, but it’s now available for women and health professionals around the world. My Masterclass on Menopause events attracted hundreds of women who wanted what I wanted myself…. and that is to feel like ourselves again.
