Meet Andrea – she loves painting. This is her sitting on the steps outside her studio where she lives in Australia. When Andrea first contacted MyMT™ she was exhausted, frustrated and confused about what was happening to her energy levels in menopause. As she said, “Finally I had arrived at a point in my life, where I had the time to paint, but with no sleep and no energy, I lost all my motivation for what I love to do.”
After joining up with MyMT™, one of the first things Andrea learnt, was that low oestrogen levels in peri-menopause, have a profound impact on other hormones in the body too. This includes the hormones that control sleep and moods – melatonin and serotonin. These get out of balance too. Then once women begin to get into the habit of waking up, this has a down-stream effect on thyroid hormones, which, along with temperature regulation hormones in the pituitary gland, control temperature, blood pressure, heart rate and metabolism.
But as I explained to Andrea in the modules that are part of the 12 week MyMT™ symptom reduction programme called ‘Circuit-Breaker’, (see my video below) in effect, the hot flushes and night sweats are NOT the problem as women have been led to believe. It’s the increase in a stress hormone called cortisol, which is caused by lack of sleep. Once cortisol levels are high, then hormones secreted by the thyroid and adrenal glands get out of balance too. The effect of this is more insomnia, increasing hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety attacks, low energy and mood swings. All of these symptoms are connected because of the way the hormones ‘talk’ to each other.
This is what the purpose of MyMT™ is – it is a step-by-step educational programme which women like Andrea, listen to and then put my powerful strategies into action progressively over the 12 weeks duration of the course. There are seven learning modules and they all contain powerful lifestyle-change information that is scientifically evidenced and powerful in helping to alleviate the chaos of menopause symptoms.
For example, did you know that high protein diets actually increase heat production in the body? No, nor did I until I researched why we get so many hot flushes and why when we sweat at night, it is our body actually trying to cool down – just like a fever. So, when we reduce protein at night, then this helps to alleviate some of the increased heat that the body produces. Cool eh?
As Andrea moved through each module (one is delivered to the exclusive member area on the website, every fortnight) and began to put into place the dietary changes that I’ve researched for women in menopause, her ENERGY levels started to return as well. As far as nutrition goes, I have positioned the food plans and recipes that women can access on studies into women’s healthy ageing and longevity. As I say to women like Andrea, once you come on the programme, then you don’t have to worry about what to eat or how to exercise for the rest of your life! It’s very liberating!
“I think all women going through menopause should do this programme. It has changed my life. I am feeling so much more energised, in control and just happy. It kinda feels unbelievable. Ironically, at this time of my life, I finally had the time to paint but no enthusiasm or motivation to do so, and I had wanted this so badly for so long. Now I finally have the energy for my painting and other things in my life. I’m absolutely loving it.”
